JULY 1982
H.U.G. Hosts Geauga Gay Day
Akron's Homosexual Unity Group (H.U.G.) will hold its second annual Gay Day at Geauga Lake Park on Saturday, July 3.
H.U.G. Chairperson, Gene, said, "We've been promoting this event throughout the state this year, and we're expecting a huge turnout. Last year's event was kind of hastily planned, but even with little publicity we had about 200 people."
"Many people are surprised to learn that this weekend (July 4th) is one of the slowest for Geauga Lake," Gene added. "They're afraid the place will be overrun with families and kids, but it's not. We almost have the park to ourselves."
H.U.G. has reserved a private picnic shelter for eating, resting and socializing. Discount tickets providing $2.20 off the regular admission price have been provided by Geauga Lake. Clip the one printed below, or contact
H.U.G. for additional coupons.
H.U.G. is a mutual support organization of concerned Lesbians and Gays in the AkronCanton area. Founded in 1980, it provides rap group counseling, speaker-raps with local and national personalities, a speakers bureau, social activities and referrals for religious, medical, legal and counseling needs.
Some other social activities planned for July include a Party and Film Night on Saturday, July 17, to benefit the Ohio Lesbian and Gay Rights Coalition's (OLGRC) State Fair Booth, H.U.G. Day at the Beach, on Saturday, July 24 at Turkey Foot State Park, and Out to Dinner Night, Saturday, July 31 at the REA Express in Quaker Square.
Anyone interested in H.U.G. activities is encouraged to call in advance for information and reservations (where required). H.U.G. can be reached by calling (216) 762-8323 or 2532652 or by writing P.O. Box 3564, Akron, Ohio 44310.
